Alternative Schooling in Rural Settings

This webinar will be an introduction to the alternative schooling landscape and differing alternative schooling models. The webinar will explore why and how alternative schooling may help prevent dropout and reengage students, provide an overview of the alternative schooling landscape, and outline the potential opportunities and challenges of pursuing alternative schooling in rural settings. Speakers include Ms. Jennifer Wilkinson from Oklahoma State Department of Education; Mr. Justin Fite from the Oklahoma Chocktaw Nation Interlocal Cooperative; Mr. Loren Reese from the Kenai Alternative High School in Kenai, Alaska; and Mr. Richard Bartolowitz from the distance learning program in Kenai, Alaska Participants will be offered the opportunity to pose questions through chat functions throughout the 90 minutes. During the final 15–20 minutes of the webinar, participants will be invited to pose questions directly to presenters. Speakers will share their reflections on opportunities, challenges, and considerations for pursuing alternative schooling in rural settings, and will answer additional participant questions.
